From lazy days at the pools to fast-paced day camps, the Y has everything your family needs to thrive this summer. As the school year ends, many families find themselves once again facing the daunting challenge of keeping their children safe, active and learning over the summer months. But don’t worry, the Y has you covered with plenty of opportunities to get up and move as a family!

Quality family time is also a perfect way to spend making memories at the Y. With events and programs like 5k races, swim lessons, family yoga and summer day camps, it’s hard not to find something for every member of your family this summer.

At the Y, we support the health and well-being of people of all ages and backgrounds with programs and services that help them develop healthy lifestyles. Speak with your local YMCA staff about how the Y can help you and your family stay physically active all summer long. Also, consider other ways you can get up and get moving together. Here are a few ideas:

Enjoy the outdoors!
The weather is beautiful this time of the year! Take advantage of it and go for a family bike ride on or walk after dinner.

Limit screen time.
As it turns out, research shows that when you limit kids’ screen time, kids behave better, get more sleep, and score better on tests at school. Set a time limit of 20 minutes or less to give your kids just the right amount of time to get a game or two in and then head off to the Y for a day filled of fun!

Snack on something healthy.
Sugar filled juice boxes and candy flavored pop tarts might sound like an easy summer time snack, but they aren’t a very healthy option. Some of the tastiest and ripest fruit are available during the summer, so why not cut up a watermelon or snack on some cantaloupe?

    About the Y

The Y is a cause-driven organization. We believe that a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That is why our areas of focus are youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
